JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – No. 25 Carson-Newman (16-5) continues its home-heavy start to the 2025 season with a midweek affair versus Lee (11-11) on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
15 of C-N's 21 games this season have been at home, and it has taken full advantage of the home slate. The Eagles are 13-2 at home this season, which included winning their first 10 home games of the season, the best home start in the program's modern baseball history. Carson-Newman bats .338 at home this season and has outscored its opponents 131-68 in the 15 home games.
The pitching staff has impressed in 2025, leading the South Atlantic Conference with a 4.41 earned run average. At home, that ERA dips to 3.71 and in eight of the 15 home games, C-N has allowed one run or less to its opponent. In non-conference games, C-N has posted a 5.22 earned run average and has limited its opponent to two run or less five times.
Trey Miller (Rocky Point, NY) has been on a tear in 2025. He leads the Eagles with a .443 batting average and has a team-high 27 hits. After just 8 RBI last season, he already has 22 this season including 6 games with multiple runs batted in. Tanner Kilgore (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga) are also tied for the team lead with 22 RBI. Both are hitting above .300 this season, along with four others in the lineup.
The Eagles are 8-3 in non-conference contests this season and are 1-2 in midweek non-conference games. C-N has a sweep of King, two wins over Charleston and Florida Southern and another non-conference win over Trevecca Nazarene. Tuesday's matchup with Lee will be Carson-Newman's first home midweek contest of the season.
Lee dominated the first meeting this season between the two sides. Mark Brew's club jumped on the Eagles early with three runs in the first and went on to win 10-0 in seven innings to hand C-N its first loss of the year. In that game, C-N committed a season-high five errors and had just two hits. Carson-Newman has lost its last five contests versus the Flames including its last three meetings in Jefferson City.
Since facing off with the Eagles on Feb 18, Lee has a 5-6 record. The Flames are coming off a weekend in which it won two out of three games in a Gulf South Conference series with Union. Overall, Lee is 11-11 and has won five out of 12 conference games.
The struggles have been on the road for this year's Lee team. It is winless on the road, with an 0-8 record. However, the Flames have been very competitive with six of those eight road losses coming by four runs or less including four straight. Entering this season, Lee had been .500 or better on the road each of the past four seasons.
Luke Collier has been a weapon for this Lee offense, hitting .452 through 22 games this season, the second-best batting average in the Gulf South Conference. His six triples are second-best nationally. He paces a Lee offense that scores 6.5 runs per game and hits .282 as a team.
