
Navy and Orange battle to 10-10 tie in Game 4 slugfest
Carson-Newman’s fall baseball World Series continued Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex, with both the Navy and Orange playing to a 10-10 tie.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's fall baseball World Series continued Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex, with both the Navy and Orange squads playing to a 10-10 tie.
Navy secured the series win with yesterday's win in game three. The two teams are battling for the advantage in run differential, and the tie today keeps Navy ahead by 5 runs.
After a scoreless top of the first, the Orange offense went right to work in the bottom of the innings. A pair of singles from Evan Mutter (Bristol, Tenn) and Aiden Gibson (Cleveland, Tenn.) was followed up by a three-run home run from Nicholas Castellana (Lancaster, NY) to start the game four scoring.
Navy would erupt for six runs in the top of the second inning to take their first lead. Luke Goforth (Blacksburg, Va.) ripped a RBI double into left field, Andrew Bench (Fonthill, ON) scored a run on a fielder's choice and an error would bring a third run home to tie the game. A wild pitch brought a fourth run home and a Tanner Kilgore (Kingsport, Tenn.) RBI single to left field made it 5-3. Cole Nathan (Knoxville, Tenn) joined in on the hit party, as he crushed a fly ball to the warning track in left field to cap a six-run second inning for Navy.
The Navy squad added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Kilgore added his second RBI single of the day with a line drive to left field to score Ryan Jenkins (Winter Haven, FL) and Navy's lead was 7-3 after three and a half innings.
The Orange team would begin to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a run scored on a wild pitch, Jacob Rogers (Dandridge, Tenn.) delivered a RBI single to left field scoring Trace Alexander (Douglasville, Ga.). A third run in the inning scored after a RBI groundout from Mutter and Orange trailed by just one run after four innings.
Braxton Smith (Cleveland, Tenn) helped Navy increase its lead in the top of the sixth inning. He ripped a sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 8-6. Ethan Patch (Whitehall, N.Y) drew a bases loaded walk and Braxton Vineyard (Chatsworth, Ga) hit a sac fly to finish off a three-run inning to make it 10-6 Navy.
Spencer Williams (Seymour, Tenn.) started Orange's scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning. He laced a line drive single into center field to score Alex Ring (Englewood, Tenn) to make it a three-run game. With two outs and the bases loaded, a throwing error on a ground ball brought home all three runners to tie the game at 10.
Both sides went scoreless in the 7th inning to finish the game in a 10-10 tie.
Navy scored 10 runs on 11 hits with just one error. Orange's ten runs came on six hits, while making three errors.
The final game of the Fall World Series is tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
