King Volleyball Sweeps Carson-Newman, 3-0, Tuesday Evening In Bristol

Bristol, Tenn. - The King College Volleyball Team (1-1) took advantage of a .268 (47-17-112) to .150 (33-18-100) hitting margin over Carson-Newman College (3-2) as the Tornado defeated the Eagles, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22), Tuesday evening at the King College Student Convocation & Recreation Center.

King was led offensively by freshman Sarah Van Goethem (Aurora, Colo.) as she led all players with 18 kills while sophomore Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) tallied 11 kills of her own. Senior Katie Fleming (Marietta, Ga.) dished out a match-high 39 assists and Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) tallied 12 digs as well for the Tornado.

Senior Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way for the Eagles with 11 kills and seven digs while senior Stephanie Cutter (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) recorded 29 assists. Senior Katie Troyer (Plain City, Ohio) led all players with seven blocks (3-4) while freshman Mackenzie Tyree (Daleville, Va.) totaled three service aces, also a match high.

Carson-Newman will next compete in the Lees-McRae Carolina Challenge this Friday and Saturday on the campus of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. The Eagles take on Mount Olive College Friday at noon.
