INDIANAPOLIS – The Carson-Newman College
Volleyball Team (22-9) has received the fourth seed for the 2009
NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament, NCAA officials
announced Sunday night. The Lady Eagles will take on the Lady
Catawba Indians of Catawba College on Friday in the region
quarterfinal match. The eight-team tournament will take place on
the campus of Wingate University for the second straight year as
the Bulldogs claimed the top seed.
Wingate, the #1 seed after winning the South Atlantic Conference
Regular Season and Tournament titles, will take on Tusculum
College, which was chosen eighth in the other match of the top half
of the bracket.
On the bottom half, Flagler College of the Peach Belt Conference
received the second seed and will play the Conference Carolinas
Regular Season and Tournament Champion Lees-McRae College.
Armstrong Atlantic State University and Lincoln Memorial University
round out the eight teams from the Southeast Region as the Pirates
took the #3 seed.
In total, the SAC placed five teams in the tournament while the
Peach Belt received two bids and the Conference Carolinas took home
one.
Match times will be announced on Monday afternoon following a
conference call between all the participating schools and the NCAA.
