Carson-Newman Volleyball Sweeps Brevard, 3-0, In South Atlantic Conference Action Saturday Afternoon

BREVARD, N.C. - The Carson-Newman College Volleyball Team (11-5, 4-1 SAC) took advantage of a superb afternoon from its middle hitters as the Lady Eagles defeated the Tornados of Brevard College (10-6, 1-5 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action by a 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23) score Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium.

Freshman Jasmine Clark (Pelham, Ala.) and senior Katie Troyer (Plain City, Ohio) both hit over .500 for the match as the pair tallied 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Clark added four blocks, a match-high.

In the first set, Carson-Newman steadily pulled away before scoring the last five points of the frame to come away with the victory.

The Lady Eagles posted their best hitting effort of the afternoon in the second stanza with a .333 (17-5-36) attack percentage. Troyer and Clark recorded six kills each in the set for a combined .750 attack percentage for the set.

Carson-Newman jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the third and final set but Brevard rallied back late to take a 23-22 lead. Three straight points for the Lady Eagles put the match away. Senior Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied seven of her 11 kills in the frame for C-N.

Senior Stephanie Cutter (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) dished out 39 assists on the day for the Lady Eagles while freshman libero Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) tied for a match-high 21 digs.

Jordei Osby (Goldsboro, N.C.) and Chelsea Larsen (Greer, S.C.) led the offense for Brevard with 11 and 10 kills, respectively while Rebecca Schoonover (Palm City, Fla.) had 21 digs for the Tornados.

Carson-Newman will next take the court on Friday night at Holt Fieldhouse in its fourth straight match against a North Carolina school. The Lady Eagles will face the Bulldogs of Wingate University at 6:30 p.m.
