Softball sweeps Fort Valley State as Kazee-Hollifield continues march to 1,000 wins

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Carson-Newman (4-0) head softball coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield collected career victories 994 and 995 thanks to the Eagles run-ruling Fort Valley State (0-7) twice Friday afternoon 15-1 and 9-1.

"Our kids gave a good effort and played a disciplined game," Kazee-Hollifield said. "That's nice to see when you play two days back-to-back."

Carson-Newman softball makes it back-to-back seasons with at least 4-0 starts.  The Eagles won six in a row last year to begin their 2013 campaign.  Carson-Newman hasn't started 4-0 in two consecutive seasons since the 2007-08 campaigns.

The Eagles batted around twice in both games and every player who started had multiple hits when combining the games.

"Sara Kelley is just hitting the ball extremely well and Kelli Hensley was doing an outstanding job just getting on base," Kazee-Hollifield said.

The Eagles return to the road Wednesday for a contest at King. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
