Hensley ropes in second SAC player of the week honor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman leftfielder Kelli Hensley has hauled in her second South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week award following a 4-0 week for Carson-Newman softball.

Hensley also won player of the week honors for the week of February 18.

For this week, Hensley helped guide C-N to doubleheader sweeps of Concord and GRU Augusta.  Hensley had multiple hits in every game this past week.

Hensley had a pair of base knocks in the first game of the doubleheader with Concord before finishing the week with back-to-back-to-back three hit games.

The four multi-hit games move Hensley to a team best 12 on the season. The Eagles are 12-0 when Hensley has multiple hits in a contest.

Among those hits was a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth to help Carson-Newman to its first walk-off win of the season with a 4-3 final margin over GRU Augusta in the first game of the doubleheader.

Hensley had four RBI for the week, a double and a pair of triples. Her .506 batting average leads the South Atlantic Conference and her five triples are tops in the nation.  Her 60 total bases are also the high water mark for the South Atlantic Conference.

Hensley and the rest of the Eagles will be on display Tuesday afternoon in a 3 p.m. doubleheader with Bluefield State.
