Kelley nets Women Play Ball national D2 athlete of the week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman third baseman Sara Kelley has been named the national Division II female athlete of the week by Women Play Ball.

Kelley earns the honor following a 5-1 week for the Carson-Newman softball team where the Eagles saw Kelley drive in a run in every contest and notch an extra base hit in every contest.

The senior from Ooltewah, Tenn. hit .579 for the week with 11 hits (six of them extra base hits) and nine RBI.  Kelley drove in three with an RBI double to left center for the Eagles in C-N's 6-0 victory over Limestone to set up head coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield's 1,000th career win.

Kelley is riding not only a 10-game hitting streak and an absurd 10-game extra base hitting streak.

She leads the South Atlantic Conference with her 22 RBI and has produced a run batted in in all but two games this year.  She's had five mult-RBI games this season.

Kelley had a pair of multi-hit games this week, including a pair of three-hit contests against Erskine and Georgia College.

The Eagles are in action Tuesday at The Vick against Kentucky Wesleyan. Coverage is available on the Eagle Sports Network for the 1:30 p.m. first pitch at cneagles.com/live.
