ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the second time in program history, Carson-Newman swept both the men's and women's SAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors in the same week as Joseph Oreva and Nathalie Schumacher earned the honors on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Oreva earns the honor after winning the long jump championship at the Tiger Paw Invite in Louisville with a jump of 7.24 meters. Oreva was one of just two athletes at the meet to reach the seven meter mark. The win is Oreva's fifth career win in the event. He has never finished lower than sixth in the long jump.

Schumacher earns her award after finishing second in the high jump in her first competition of the season with a clearance of 1.55 meters. Schumacher, Sarah Bolton of Georgetown College and Henriette Halwas all cleared 1.55 meters, but Bolton earned the event championship due to clearing the mark in just one jump. It's the third straight meet that Schumacher has finished inside the top five in the event and the sixth straight indoor meet she has finished inside the top five.

Carson-Newman last swept the weekly indoor track honors on Jan. 13, 2020, when Danillo Cardoso and Schumacher won the awards after their performances at the ETSU Invitational. That was also the last time an Eagle athlete earned a SAC women's indoor field athlete of the week award.

The accolade is Schumacher's second career weekly award and Oreva's third. Schumacher is the only Eagle to win the women's SAC indoor field athlete of the week honor since the conference started the award in 2017. Oreva won two weekly awards during the 2020-21 indoor season, his last honor coming on Mar. 2, 2021.

This is the second time this season that a Carson-Newman Eagle has won the SAC indoor field athlete of the week award on the men's side. Christian Shouse won the honor after winning the long jump event championship at the ETSU Invitational on Jan. 15.

The Eagles will compete again at the Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City this weekend, beginning on Friday, Feb. 4. To keep up with the action, fans can stay locked in at cneagles.com or on twitter at @cn_eagles.
