SAC RELEASE

ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the second week in a row, Nathalie Schumacher was named Women's SAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Schumacher earns the honor after winning her first event championship of the season, winning the women's high jump at the Buccaneer Invitational this past weekend. With a clearance of 1.61 meters, Schumacher beat out four Division-I competitors from ETSU, Appalachian State, UNC Asheville and Tennessee Tech for the championship. It is the second straight week Schumacher has finished on the podium in the high jump after finishing second last week at the Tiger Paw Invite.

The mark ranked as the 25th highest mark by a women's high jumper in all of Division-II for the week of Feb. 1-7 according to the USTFCCCA.

It is the fourth straight meet that Schumacher has finished inside the top five in the event and the seventh straight indoor meet she has finished inside the top five.

Schumacher has been successful in Johnson City as she won the event championship at the 2021 Buccaneer Invitational with a clearance of 1.58 meters. Schumacher also won the event at the 2020 ETSU Invitational with a school record clearance of 1.68 meters.

The junior from Germany also competed in the shot put for the first time in her career, finishing 24th out of 50 participants with a throw of 10.17 meters.

This is the third weekly honor of Schumacher's career. She earned her second career indoor field athlete of the week award last week along with teammate Joseph Oreva, sweeping the SAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for Carson-Newman.

It is the first time in program history that a Carson-Newman women's track & field athlete has won back-to-back SAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors since the award was introduced in 2017. Schumacher is still the only women's track & field member to win any weekly SAC indoor track or field honor. It is the first time Carson-Newman has won back-to-back SAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors since the 2018 season, when Jahvad McDermott won the award on Jan. 30, and Tanner Stepp won the next week on Feb. 6.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 18 at the UofSC Indoor Invitational in Columbia, S.C. For all of the news and notes on Carson-Newman track & field, head over to cneagles.com.
