SAC Release

ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the first time in her career, Nathalie Schumacher has earned SAC Outdoor Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the conference on Tuesday, Mar. 29.

Schumacher wins the award after winning the high jump championship at the 2022 Montreat Invitational this weekend. The junior won the event championship with a clearance of 1.59 meters. It is the second straight season that Schumacher has won the event championship at Montreat, winning the event last year with a clearance of 1.70 meters.

Schumacher also set a new personal best in the long jump with a distance of 4.78 meters. The Germany native also finished fifth in the javelin with a toss of 31.28 meters.

This is the third weekly award for Schumacher this season, as she won two of the awards during the indoor season on Feb. 8 and Feb. 1, becoming the first Carson-Newman women's track & field athlete to win back-to-back weekly awards.

It is the first time since Mar. 1, 2015 that Carson-Newman has had an athlete win the SAC Outdoor Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, when Tori Gaul was selected by the conference. Schumacher is just the third Carson-Newman woman ever to win the award since the honor was introduced during the 2014 outdoor season, when Tiana Mills won the first-ever award.

The Eagles and Schumacher will take this weekend off to prepare for the Lee Flames Invitational on Apr. 8-9 in Cleveland, Tenn. Fans can follow the track & field team all season long at cneagles.com.
