NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Track and Field shined on day one of one of its biggest meets of the indoor season.
The Eagles took home top ten finishes in the men's high jump, men's high jump invite, and men's 200m.
Oluwafemi Richards began the Eagles' day in the Music City by clearing a height of 1.98m for second place in the men's high jump as the only Division II competitor, facing 14 Division I opponents only coming second to Louisiana's Kaleb Goodley.
In the men's high jump invite, Verrol Sam booked an eighth-place finish clearing a height of 2.01m.
In the men's 200m, the Eagles impressed with two top ten finishes including Favour Ekpekpe placing third while Amine Kasmi took home a sixth place finish in a top ten that featured athletes from Middle Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Illinois State, and Louisiana.
Sydney McCarty flexed her muscle as the top-placing athlete from Division II in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.58m, placing 17th overall.
There were no preliminary heats on Friday with all heats of events such as the 60m, triple jump, shotput, and relays all taking place on Saturday from the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to go until approximately 7 p.m.
