LEXINGTON, Va. – Carson-Newman's long-time school record in the 60-meter sprint has just been toppled.
Andre Morrison, a junior transfer out of Butler Community College, has smashed Carson-Newman's fastest 60-meter time in his first event in an Eagles uniform at the 2025 VMI Invitational.
Morrison ran a 6.63, topping the previous C-N mark of 6.69 set by legendary Carson-Newman track star and 13-time All-American Devon Moore.
The 6.63 marks not only the second fast 60-meter time in the country at the Division II level this season but also the fastest time ever recorded inside the Corps Physical Training Facility, the home for VMI track and field.
The record for Morrison came in the event's semifinal heat, but he shined in his preliminary heat as well, marking a time of 6.71, which also marks the fifth fastest time in the event nationally.
With his strong efforts in the preliminary and semifinal rounds, Morrison earns the top qualifying time heading into Saturday's 60-meter final. Of note, the second fastest semifinal time at the 2025 VMI Invitational belongs to King (Tenn.)'s Lynden Johnson, who finished 0.05 behind Morrison in the heat.
Perhaps most impressively, the 6.63 Carson-Newman program record is not Morrison's personal record. That came when he ran for Butler CC last season and marked a 6.60 at the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational.
Carson-Newman Track and Field continues its meet at the 2025 VMI Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m., where, among other athletes competing for the orange and blue, Morrison has a chance to chase his record in the 60-meter finals at approximately 1:20 p.m.
