INDIANAPOLIS – Verrol Sam earns tenth place in the men's long jump to earn Second Team All-American honors.
Verrol Sam was the only athlete for Carson-Newman to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in a field event punching his ticket in the men's long jump with a 7.49m qualifying jump at the Finn Pincus Invitational.
Sam recorded his best mark of the day in his first jump clearing a distance of 7.15m followed by jumps of 7.08m and 7.00m in his second and third attempts of the day.
Wesley Tyndall of Lincoln (Mo.) became the National Champion in the event with a distance of 7.58m followed by Harding's Anton Kopytko and UIndy's Alex Meyer on the podium.
Carson-Newman's trip to nationals ends on Saturday, March 15 as Andre Morrison sprints in the National Championship 60m dash at 2:55 p.m. Morrison will occupy lane five as the second-fastest preliminary time at Nationals.
