FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – A second round improvement to start the day helped the Eagles move up the leaderboard as No. 15 Carson-Newman tied for a fourth-place finish on Tuesday at the 2018 Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate to open its spring slate.

Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) finished tied for second in the field while Tom Forster (Oundle, England) landed at a tie for fourth, landing them both on the All-Tournament team.

This marks the third-straight top-five finish for the head coach Randy Wylie's crew this season.

"Good solid finishes by Jake and Tom," Wylie said. "The other guys had good moments, but we need more production at the three, four and five spots."

After the first day of the tournament was suspended due to darkness, Tuesday started with the conclusion of the second round before the final 18-holes were played. The Eagles closed out the second round at a tie for 5^th-place with North Greenville.

C-N drained the most eagle shots as a team in the tournament with three, two of those coming from Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.) who led the entire field in eagle scoring.

The five travel team members pushed the Eagles to be the top Par 5 scoring team in the field at -9 on those holes while being tied for first on Par 4s at +1 for the second round. They were also on par for 60 holes of the second round with 16 birdies en route to shooting their lowest team round of the season at 277. They finished the day at second on Par 5s at 10-under, 13 strokes shy of host team Lincoln Memorial.

Headrick was one stroke behind Forster heading into the third round after tying his season low round score of 67 in the second round to be tied at 11^th. In the final round, he shot three birdies with two bogeys while shooting for par on the rest of the holes for a -1 round of 70.

His tie for second-place marks his second consecutive top-five finish.

Forster was tied for 8^th-place heading into the final round at one-under par after a second round score of 69, tying his second-lowest round score of the season that he has now shot thrice. The senior shot one-over on the final round with just one birdie recorded. Overall, he was the second-best par shooter in the field, scoring even on 42 total holes.

Alex Hutson (Newport, Tenn.) also shot his lowest round of the season in the second round with an even par score of 71, vying for control of the 20^th spot. The final round brought more struggles for the junior as he was +5 with a round of 76. His 220 total was enough for a tie at 32^nd.

Jackson Tyler (Wilmington, N.C.) and individual participant Will Hurt (Powell, Tenn.) closed out the second round in a tie at 33^rd, also notching their lowest rounds of the season at 70 and 71, respectively. The final round, however brought changes for each as Tyler added eight strokes to his score to finish at a tie for 50^th while Hurt was five strokes higher in the final round compared to the second, moving him to a tie at 43^rd.

Grant Bodie (Knoxville, Tenn.), also serving as an individual, saw a three-stroke improvement from the first to the second round to put him at a tie for 54^th. His second round score of 73 was also his lowest of the season. In the final round, however, he shot three bogeys, a pair of double bogeys with just two birdies, putting him at +5 with a round of 76. He closed out the tournament at a tie for 53^rd.

Also tied with Bodie was Marcinelli. The junior was able to shave two shots off of his first round score, shooting four-over through the second set of 18 holes to land at 67^th heading into the final round at +10 for the event. He closed out the event with his lowest round in the tournament with a 73. He was 12-over through three rounds for a 225 total.

No. 16 Lincoln Memorial tied with Young Harris at the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of the event, scoring a +4 total of 856. The Railsplitters took the win on a scorecard playoff. No. 20 Lander came in at third, five strokes behind the leaders.

Flagler's Juan Iturra was the top overall player in the event with a three-under score of 210. Headrick tied with Belmont Abbey's Levi Kettelhut at the second-place spot.
