Third Round Match Play Results

ABERDEEN, Scotland – A late oppositional resurgence in the back nine brought Tom Forster's (Oundle, England) time at the 123rd Amateur Championship to an end on Thursday morning.

Going head-to-head with Viktor Hovland, the fifth-ranked amateur in the world and highest ranked in the Amateur field, the Eagle owned leadership in the match for 16 consecutive holes, leading by as many as four-up. Hovland won five-straight holes to leave Forster out of the rest of competition.

The All-America Honorable Mention jumped out to a quick one-up lead thanks to an even showing on one were Norway's Hovland bogeyed. Forster's one-up advantage remained until Hovland conceded the sixth, putting Forster up two.

A double bogey on seven by the Carson-Newman golfer put him back to one-up but was quickly answered with a birdie on eight, allowing him to build a substantial lead.

Back-to-back bogeys by the Oklahoma State golfer helped boost Forster to four-up. That was the largest lead Forster would hold in the round with a birdie on 13 that was suddenly answered by a swing in momentum that favored Hovland.

The England native lost the next three holes before Hovland pushed the match to all square on 17 with a birdie on the par 3. A bogey on 18 by Forster gave Hovland his first and most important lead of the day to eliminate Forster.

Three more rounds of 18-hole match play remain in the event before a champion is crowned in the 36-hole final on Saturday.
