LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman sits in 13th in a competitive field following day one of the Tennessee River Rumble at 18-over as a team.
Play was suspended due to darkness, so the Eagles and the rest of the field will conclude round two and play round three on Tuesday.
Elliot MacGregor led C-N on day one, shooting a 76 in round one, and is 4-under through 15 holes in round two. MacGregor's round one front nine featured four bogeys, but five pars allowed him to enter the back nine at 4-over. MacGregor negated a pair of holes over par on the back nine with three birdies, finishing the round at 4-over.
MacGregor only has one bogey through 15 holes in round two while stroking five birdies and nine pars. He will look to close the round strong before the final round, playing the final three holes of round two on Tuesday morning.
Nick Daugherty is tied for 41st after day one, stroking a 76 in round one, and is even-par through 14 holes in round two. Daugherty carded three birdies on the front nine in round one, but a birdie and four pars sent him to the back nine at 2-over. He limited the damage of a trio of holes over par on the back nine with two birdies and four pars, finishing the round at 4-over.
So far in round two, Daugherty has canceled out a trio of bogeys with three birdies and eight pars, sitting at even-par with four holes left to play on Tuesday morning.
Freshman Ian Schoonmaker is tied for 70th, carding a 78 in round one, and is 2-over with four holes to play in round two. Schoonmaker had four holes over par on the front nine in round one but carded a birdie and four pars, entering the back nine at 4-over. He added a pair of strokes on two bogeys on the back nine, but seven pars helped him finish the round at 6-over.
Schoonmaker has a pair of birdies in round two, limiting the damage of three holes over par, sitting at 2-over with four holes left to play in round two.
Another freshman, Stefans Spruzs, is tied for 79th following a 79 in round one and is 2-over through 15 holes in round two. Spruzs had four bogeys on the front nine in round one, but five pars limited the damage and sent him to the back nine at 4-over. He carded five bogeys on the back nine, but a pair of birdies cut into the tally and finished his round at 7-over.
Spruzs has carded five bogeys in round two, but a birdie and an eagle have brought his total to 2-over with three holes to play in round two.
Owen Larson sits in 93rd, carding a 76 in round one, and is 9-over through 15 holes in round two. Larson's round one front nine featured two bogeys and a pair of birdies with the rest of the holes at par, sending him to the back nine at even-par. Larson had five bogeys on the back nine, but a birdie sandwiched between and three pars helped him close the round at 4-over.
So far in round two, six holes over par have hurt Larson's tally, sitting at 9-over with three holes to play before the final round.
The Eagles will look to finish the tournament strong with the remainder of round two and the final round starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday at the Windriver Golf Club in Lenoir City, Tennessee.
