Eagles Show Improvement on Day Two of the Bearcat Fall Invitational, Climbing to 14th

MCCORMICK, S.C. – The Carson-Newman men's golf team climbed four spots on the final day of the Bearcat Fall Invitational to finish 14th, courtesy of a pair of tournament-low rounds.

As a team, the Eagles shot their lowest round total of the event with a 292, seven strokes better than their second-round total, finishing the event at 28-over.

"Much better from the Eagles today," head coach Randy Wylie said. "A great finish from Elliot MacGregor with a 68. It's time to get to work."

MacGregor led the Eagles, jumping 24 spots with an impressive 68-stroke performance to finish the two-day event tied for 15th. MacGregor was consistent on the front nine, stroking five of the nine holes at par, and despite a bogey, MacGregor notched back-to-back birdies to end the front nine at 2-under. The senior delivered a similar back nine and dropped two more strokes, carding three birdies to just one bogey on the final stretch of the tournament to finish the round at 4-under, putting him at 3-under for the tournament.

Nick Daugherty also jumped 24 spots, finishing the event tied for 55th following a personal tournament-low round with a 70-stroke effort in the third round. Daugherty was 1-over after the front nine, tallying three birdies but three holes over par, including a double bogey. However, Daugherty delivered on the back nine, dropping three strokes with a trio of birdies and six holes at par to finish the round at 2-under and 5-over for the tournament.

Noah Cambridge moved up a spot, shooting at 75 in the final round to finish tied for 78th at 10-over. The sophomore had an up-and-down front nine, shooting three bogeys but limiting the damage with three birdies to head into the final stretch at 1-over. On the back nine, Cambridge was consistent with seven holes at par but shot two bogeys to finish the round at 3-over.

Aidan Powter and Owen Larson finished tied for 94th, with Powter shooting a 79 and Larson with an 80. Powter and Larson had similar front nines, shooting four holes above par, but finished the front end with a birdie. Powter tallied a birdie on the back nine to limit the damage of two bogeys and shot the rest of the holes at par. Larson had four holes over par but notched five pars to finish the round at 8-over.

The Eagles will look to build on the positives of the final round as they prepare for the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate on September 23rd and 24th.
