TOCCOA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman men's golf team closed out the fall season on Tuesday, finishing 12th at the Currahee Invitational, led by a top-ten finish from Nick Daugherty.
Daugherty led the Eagles, finishing tied for 8th at 2-over after a 75-stroke round three. After a bogey to start the round, Daugherty settled in nicely with three consecutive pars before two birdies. However, two of the next three holes were over par, sending him to the back nine at 3-over. On the back nine, Daugherty canceled out a bogey and a double bogey with a pair of birdies to finish the round at 3-over.
Elliot MacGregor saw a solid 16-spot jump on day two following a 74-stroke third round to finish tied for 45th at 16-over. MacGregor stroked the first four holes at par before a double bogey. He stroked a birdie inbetween a pair of bogeys down the stretch to enter the back nine at 3-over. On the final stretch, MacGregor was consistent, with eight of the final nine holes at par, with the other being a birdie to drop a stroke and finish the round at 2-over.
Freshman Will Bacon secured a 51st place finish at 18-over after an 81-stroke final round. Bacon stroked two birdies on the front nine, but five holes over par sent him to the back nine at 5-over. Despite an early birdie on the back nine, Bacon added four strokes on the back nine on three holes over par to finish the round at 9-over.
Noah Cambridge finished tied for 64th at 22-over, shooting an 82 in round three. Cambridge's front nine featured four holes over par, but a late birdie limited the damage and sent him to the back nine at 5-over. Four holes over par on the back nine added five strokes to his total, ending his round at 10-over.
Rounding out the Eagles was Aidan Powter, finishing tied for 68th at 23-over after carding an 80 in the final round. Powter was solid on the front nine, limiting the damage of three holes over par with a birdie in the middle of the round and the rest of the holes at par to enter the final stretch at 3-over. Powter added five strokes on the back nine with five holes over par, but birdied late in the round to finish at 8-over.
The Eagles will take some time to regroup before preparing for the spring season.
