GAINESVILLE, Ga. – After two tournament-low rounds, the Carson-Newman men's golf team tied for 8th in a competitive field at the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate.
Noah Cambridge led the Eagles, jumping 11 spots to finish tied for 11th after shooting under par for the second time in the tournament with a 69 in the final round to finish at 4-under. Cambridge dropped two strokes on the front nine, stroking two birdies and shooting the other seven holes at par. On the back nine, the sophomore was equally consistent, dropping a stroke on a late birdie and adding eight pars to finish the round at 3-under.
Freshman Stefans Spruzs tied for 42nd, shooting a 73 in the final round to finish at 2-over. Despite starting the day with a bogey, Spruzs was stellar on the front nine, carding seven pars and a birdie to enter the back nine at even par. Spruzs added a stroke on the back nine with a bogey but shot the rest of the holes at par to finish the round at 1-over.
Elliot MacGregor matched his first-round total with a 73 in the final round to finish the event in 57th at 5-over. MacGregor started the day nicely, stroking two birdies to overcome a bogey and added six pars on the front nine. MacGregor added two strokes with a pair of bogeys on the back nine but shot seven pars to finish the round at 1-over.
Nick Daugherty delivered his tournament-low, shooting a 72 in the final round to slot in tied for 67th at 9-over. Daugherty started the day with four straight pars followed by a birdie and an eagle to limit the damage of two late bogeys. He added a stroke on the back nine but birdied and shot six pars to finish the round at even par.
Freshman Will Bacon tied for 77th after an 81-stroke round three, finishing the event at 12-over. Bacon's front nine featured five holes over par, but he birdied and shot three pars to limit the damage. He added a trio of strokes on a pair of bogeys and a double bogey but shot five pars and birdies early in the round to finish at 9-over.
The Eagles will have a few weeks off before returning to the Peach State for the Hurricane Invitational in Albany, Georgia, on October 7th and 8th.
