Eagles prepare to compete at home for the first time this season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman beach volleyball has been on the road for every tournament this season so far and are excited to play at home on Saturday and Sunday.

Both days hold two matches for the Eagles against Tusculum and Eastern Kentucky. The Pioneers are a familiar opponent that they have seen twice already this season. The first meeting was at the Principia College Beach Bash in Indiana and the second was just last weekend at the Dig and Dive Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. The Eagles fell in both matches 5-0 to the new beach program that is 4-9 overall.

Eastern Kentucky is a fresh team the Eagles have not yet faced this season. Like the Pioneers, the Colonels are in their first season as a program having just added it officially last September. Johnna Fouch is the interim head coach for this season and the Colonels have gone 0-6 up until now in their first go around as a beach volleyball team.

Beach volleyball is the fastest growing NCAA sport in history, all three teams competing this weekend are three of 75 programs that have entered into the sport since 2011-12.

The Eagles will face Tusculum early Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. and go up against Eastern Kentucky Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. For more information, updates and results check back on cneagles.com.
