JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Eagles went 1-1 on opening day at the AVCA Small Beach Championships in Tavares, Fla. 

Carson-Newman lost their early morning match against the University of Tampa. Since matches at the tournament are played to clinch, the game was concluded after Tampa won three flights.  

The Spartans secured seeds two, three, and five to take the match. 

For their second match of the day at 3:35, Carson-Newman secured their first win of the tournament weekend with a 3-2 victory over the Badgers. Mckenna Hall and Sierra Still won their match in the #1 seed in three sets. Ava Fountain and Paige Halcrow defeated Spring Hill's Beger and Lane in three sets as well, with the third coming to a 15-13 conclusion. Morgan Foy and Kat Nelson secured the third and final win for the Eagles in straight sets of 21-16 and 21-13.
