Carson-Newman Women’s Golf picks up two transfers

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Women's Golf coach Mandy Moore announced that two golfers are becoming Eagles Friday.

Danielle Baiunco transfers in from Western Kentucky University while Krysten Badey makes the move to C-N from West Virginia Wesleyan College.

"We were able to get two transfers who will help us immediately because of their collegiate experience.  They'll both fit in well with our team and represent what we stand for as a team as well as a university."

Badey was a highly accomplished golfer in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Clarksville, Md. Native picked up a WVIAC Golfer of the Week award and was a first team All-WVIAC golfer in 2012.  Badey is also the record holder for WVWC's women's golf team for lowest two-round score at 161.

Badey said there's a lot to love about Carson-Newman.

"C-N had everything I was looking for in a college," Badey said. "I felt really drawn to the Christian environment."

Baiunco golfed while at Viera High School in Melbourne, Fla. She helped lead the Hawks to a 2010 Florida State Championship.  Baiunco also saw VHS make three straight runs at the conference, district and regional titles.

"(With Baiunco) when she came to visit, I knew right away that she was the type of person I wanted on my team. She's elated to come to Carson-Newman. I'm glad that we were able to provide her an opportunity to continue her collegiate career."

Moore's golfers will try to repeat on a top 20 Division II ranking.
