SALISBURY, NC. - Carson-Newman women's golf shot a 319 on day two of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational Tuesday, finishing eighth overall. The Eagles were 52 strokes behind the number one team, Newberry College and only 35 strokes behind rival Tusculum College, who came in second place. This two day event was held at the 5,998 yard par 72 Country Club of Salisbury.
Head women's golf coach Amanda Moore was pleased that their team improved from round one, but realizes there is still a lot of work the team needs to do.
"We definitely played together as a team today, we just need to improve our round one play, so we can place higher in tournaments to come," Moore said.
The Eagles were led by junior Mary Tunnell who shot a 78 for round two and ended the event with a combined score of 159, putting her tied for 21st.
Sophomore Chelsea Passmore was 6- over for day two giving her a combined score of 164 and sophomore Danielle Baiunco followed her day-one score of 84 with an 80. Both players finished the invitational tied for 33rd.
Freshman Meridith Hawkins tied for 50th with an 83 on Tuesday. She finished the event with a two-round total of 168.
Freshman Kelli Pemberton finished in 55th place after an 89 in the final round.
"The girls played a lot better today and showed that improvement is capable of getting, we just need to continue to work at it," Moore said.
The Eagles will play again in St. Augustine, Fla. at the Flagler Fall Slam on October 22, 2012.
