HICKORY, N.C. – The Carson-Newman (2-7, 0-4 SAC) women's soccer team dropped to 0-4 in the SAC with today's 3-0 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne (6-3-1, 4-1 SAC).
"The girls played well," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said, "for the first 45 minutes."
The match remained scoreless through the first half. Eight minutes into the second, Garcelle Alequine launched a shot to the left upper-90 for her 10th goal of the season. Jessica Tooley claimed the assist.
Brianna Belsky scored an unassisted goal two minutes later off a free kick to put the Bears up by two.
With 11 minutes left in the game, Emmi Dunn put up L-R's third goal, her third of the season, from 10 yards out.
"It's been a frustrating season thus far," Coach Moodie said. "We still believe that we have a great team."
C-N was outshot 24 to eight, but only six to five in shots on goal. Sophomore Gabrielle Gianeselli (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Eagles in shots having taken two, both of which were on target.
Dunn released eight shots for L-R, two on goal, while Alequine had five, one on goal.
The Lady Eagles return home for another conference match Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial.
