VIDEO: Richard Moodie Interview
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Director of Soccer Richard Moodie has unveiled the Carson-Newman women's soccer program's 2015 schedule touting a five-game homestand to begin the year at McCown Field.
"The first month for us is all at home," Moodie said. "Strategically we can focus on training and getting better every day and getting acclimated to one another. The wins that we had last year were all at home; so we believe that will be important for us this year."
Carson-Newman opens up the season with the first athletic event of the year for any team at Mossy Creek. The Eagles get the year rolling Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. by welcoming in mid-state rival Trevecca Nazarene. The Eagles lost 2-1 in overtime last year to the Trojans.
The Eagles keep things rolling at home with nonconference matchups with Alabama-Huntsville on Sept. 5 and NCAA tournament participant Ohio Dominican on Sept. 11. The Eagles begin conference play Sept. 16 at home against Lenoir-Rhyne.
"We need some tough teams on the schedule to gain recognition and respect," Moodie said. "But it's just important to help a bunch of freshman who are making the transition from high school to college get acclimated with classes as well as the college game, and being at home can help with that."
The flipside of the month-long start of the season at home is that the Eagles spend the back half of the year playing the role of road warriors. Following a Sept. 26 home contest with Queens, the Eagles spend their next five games away from the friendly confines of McCown Field.
Carson-Newman returns home on homecoming weekend to tangle with Wingate Oct. 17. The Eagles wrap up their home schedule Oct. 24 with senior day against Brevard before closing out the year on the road at Tusculum and Coker.
