Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Female Newcomer of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  Here are the fall nominees for the Female Newcomer of the Year.  Tuesday, the nominees for Eagle Club Male Athlete of the Year will be released.

The second annual Frosty Awards will take place in April and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Jenna Wilson

Wilson became the first All-American in Carson-Newman volleyball history by AVCA and Daktronics after transferring from UC-Santa Barbara. Wilson's 3.9 points per set were fourth in the SAC while her 3.20 kills per set were fifth-best. Blocking was her forte as her 134 total blocks led the SAC and rank 13th nationally and her 1.17 blocks per set are good for 23rd in the country. The middle blocker was highly efficient as her .388 attack percentage ranks 11th among Division II players. It's a mark that shattered the previous high from a Carson-Newman player set by Katie Troyer's .317 in 2008. Wilson has accumulated double-digit kills on 23 occasions while posting 20 or more a team-high four times. She was a first team All-SAC selection and a member of the All-SAC Tournament team. Wilson won the conference's Player of the Week honor twice while earning the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Volleyball Player of the Week on October 21.

Helen Seed

Seed's freshman season ended with First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors as a defender, the first such honor for an Eagle since 2011. The Englishwoman finished the 2014 season with a goal against Lincoln Memorial and the game-winning goal against Mars Hill. She tacked on an assist against the Lions of Mars Hill. Seed, along with sophomore defender Megan Peterson, served as one of the best defensive combos in the SAC.

Lexy Raybon

During her short stay in Maddox Pool, Raybon has set two school records in two different strokes. In her inaugural event at Carson-Newman, the Second Splash, the Sarasota, Fla.-native broke the record in the 500 Free by two seconds with a time of 5:09.51 and followed that up with destroying the 200 Fly record by four seconds with a 2:06.82. On November 11th, Raybon was named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week.

Elizabeth England

England's first half of her freshman season with three finishes in the team's top-two places including two tournaments where the Oakland, Tenn.-native finished at the top of the team. She picked up the team's first individual win since 2009 at the Etowah Intercollegiate in late September. The next tournament, the Guy Harvey Invitational in West Palm Beach, Fla., England once again was the highest-finishing Eagle.

Tori Gaul

Like fellow freshman counterpart Lachlan Dickie, freshman cross country runner Tori Gaul was consistently the top female runner for coach Tony Parrilla's squad. Gaul finished as the top-runner six times and the other three races saw the Salisbury, N.C.-native place second. Her top-placing finish was a second-place showing at the Maryville Duel Meet.

Margaret Stansberry

Stansberry has picked up six wins and three new school records during her time with the Carson-Newman swimming program. She won two events each at the Second Splash, the dual meet against Lenior-Rhyne and the dual meet against the University of the Cumberlands. She was a member of two school-record setting relays at the Fall Frenzy in the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Medley Relay. Individually, on the second day of the Fall Frenzy, the Knoxville, Tenn.-native set a school record and a "B" provisional time of 1:53.32 in the 200 Freestyle.
