AUSTIN, Texas - For a second straight season, Carson-Newman catcher KaraLynne Levi (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Levi earns a spot on the third team for a second straight year. Levi joins Elayna Siebert and Abby Fiessinger as the only two-time academic All-Americans in Carson-Newman softball history.
Carson-Newman has produced 54 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans since softball's Brandi Hardin garnered first-team honors in 1992. Levi, men's soccer's Thay Silva and women's soccer's Lira Mathes were both honored earlier this year. All told, the department has produced 40 academic All-Americans in the last seven years.
She is the softball program's 10th Academic All-American.
Levi earned all-conference honors for a third time and the second as a member of the second team in her final year at Mossy Creek.
A 203-game starter behind the plate, Levi hit .319 this year with a .460 OBP and a .586 slugging percentage. She is the only catcher in the league who has played error free behind the plate. Levi has tallied four multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games this year.
She was 3-for-4 with three runs scored against Tiffin (Feb. 21). She drove in three-RBI against both Limestone (Mar. 10) and UVA Wise (Mar. 16). The senior hit five home runs and eight doubles on the year.
She wrapped up her Carson-Newman as the Eagles' career record holder for SAC flies (12) and fielding percentage (.998). She also leads the program in most chances (1,263), most putouts (1,150) and most runners caught stealing (42) She is second all-time in C-N history in times hit by a pitch (56).
Levi finished her career third all-time in SAC bunts (24) and sixth in RBI (143).
