C-N jumps into NFCA Top 25

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the first time since the close of the 2019 season, Carson-Newman has been placed in the NFCA Top 25.  The organization debuted the third iteration of its weekly poll Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles had been receiving votes through the first two polls of the season for the NFCA.

Carson-Newman last checked in in 21st in the poll in the penultimate ranking in 2019. Carson-Newman was ranked for six weeks that year and as high as seventh.

C-N is off to a 17-3 start. Of the Eagles last eight wins, six have come via the run rule.

The Eagles offense has been prodigious in 2022.  Carson-Newman has the most runs scored (173) and hits (226) of any team in NCAA Division II.  Carson-Newman ranks in the top 20 nationally of 10 offensive categories including doubles (2nd - 48), stolen bases (5th - 53), triples (7th - nine), batting average (11th - .380), on-base percentage (13th - .439) and home runs (15th - 17).

The Eagles are more than halfway home to the fifth triple-digit steals total as a team in school history.  The 2004 and 2008 teams share that record with 125 stolen bases on the year.

Carson-Newman is one of three South Atlantic Conference institutions ranked.  Lincoln Memorial checks in in 14th with a 13-5 record, while Anderson is 21st at 16-2.

Carson-Newman defends its national ranking on Wednesday when the Eagles take on North Greenville at noon at The Vick. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network is available at cneagles.com/live.
