
Hughes wallops way to SAC Player of the Week honors

Hughes' prodigious slugging gives her the first SAC Player of the Week honor of her career and the first for an Eagle since Shannon Smith was recognized on March 16, 2021.
The Gibbs product was 5-for-13 at the plate last week with 13 RBI in a 4-0 week for the program. That amounted to a 1.385 slugging percentage and a .385 batting average.
All five of Hughes hits were for extra bases. She slashed a double against Lander and smoked two home runs against both Erskine and Emmanuel.
Hughes crushed back-to-back three-run blasts in consecutive plate appearances against the Lions.
She became the first Eagle to homer in consecutive plate appearances since Shannon Smith did so at UVA Wise on March 13, 2021.
The 13 RBI that Hughes smashed propelled her into the nation's lead with 34. Hughes is fifth in the nation in home runs (seven) and eighth in doubles (eight).
