LOUISVILLE – Carson-Newman short stop Leah Sohm and second baseman Emily Harris have both been listed among the 50 players on the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Year awards list, the NFCA announced Thursday.

Carson-Newman and Anderson are the only schools from the SAC with multiple players on the list.  Cal State San Marcos and Grand Valley State also have two players listed.

The Lone Star Conference topped all leagues with seven honorees, followed by the Great Lakes Valley Conference with six representatives. The CCAA and South Atlantic Conference each had five student-athletes, with the Northern Sun coming in with four.

Sohm and Harris have both been prodigious at the plate this season.

Harris has the eighth-highest batting average in the country this season, hitting .487. She ranks second in the nation with 55 hits

She has hitting streaks of 11, 10 and eight games this season.  The Young Harris transfer and 2018 All-American has 20 multi-hit efforts this year in 34 games.

Harris has 11 doubles and 27 RBI this season, surpassing season highs from any of her years at Young Harris.

The senior had a four-hit day against King (Feb. 19) and matched a single-game school and SAC record with three doubles against Emmanuel (Feb. 6).

Harris has successfully stolen 22 bases in 24 tries this season.  She ranks 18th in the nation in steals and fifth in the SAC.

Meanwhile, Sohm is hitting .446 this season with 54 hits to rank fourth the nation.

The Gibbs product has 16 multi-hit efforts this year, including a sextet of three-hit games.  She matched 29-year-old school record with a five-hit performance against Shorter (Feb. 12).

She had her first career home runs, both inside-the-parkers against the Hawks and West Virginia State.

Through her first four years at Mossy Creek, Sohm had driven in a total of 13 runs. This season, Sohm has driven in 30.  She has three doubles, six triples and two home runs.

Additionally, she's stolen 25 bases in 26 attempts. Sohm ranks 11th in the country and second in the SAC with her stolen base numbers.

The Top 25 finalists for the 2022 Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Year awards will be announced on May 5. A student-athlete does not have to be on the Top 50 list to be considered for the Top 25. The winner of each award will be announced on June 2, following the conclusion of the 2022 season.

Sohm and Harris, as well as the rest of the Eagles will be on display Saturday at noon against Wingate. Coverage will be available on the Eagle Sports Network at cneagles.com/live.
