ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman freshman hurler Syerra Rogers (Graysville, Tenn.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Rogers is Carson-Newman's first Pitcher of the Week honoree this season, and the program's first since Allison Rager was recognized on April 8, 2019 after firing a no-hitter against Newberry.
Rogers is the first freshman pitcher to receive the award since Lacie Rinus was recognized three times during her freshman year in 2017.
The Graysville, Tenn.-native went 2-0 on the week with a 7-1 win over Limestone and a 12-0, five-inning, complete-game shutout of Catawba, her second complete-game shutout of the season.
The freshman only surrendered four hits on the week while striking out 15. She touted a 0.58 ERA and opponents hit a paltry .093 off her last week.
In the two games, Limestone and Catawba were a combined 0-for-22 with runners on base against Rogers. The run the Saints scored was the result of a wild pitch.
Rogers and the rest of the Eagles are in action Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. against UVA Wise. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network is available at cneagles.com/live.
