C-N down one spot to seventh in second region ranking

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Even though its strength of schedule went up and it collected two wins over regionally-ranked foes, Carson-Newman dropped a spot to seventh in the second iteration of the Southeast Region rankings.

The ranking means that if the season were to end today, Carson-Newman would be bound for its 16th NCAA tournament in program history.

The conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas combined with the top five teams from the region rankings go on to make up the Southeast Regional.

While Carson-Newman is the only team in the Southeast who can boast of wins over Anderson, Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate (the top three-ranked clubs in the region), movement elsewhere has hampered C-N's resume.

Mississippi College, who Carson-Newman was 1-0 against, well out of the South Region rankings and was replaced by Lee, who the Eagles are 1-1 against.

In the Southeast, Limestone dropped out and was replaced by Queens. The Eagles are 1-1 against the Saints, but 0-2 against the Royals.

The South Atlantic Conference is well-represented in the Southeast.  Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne sit atop the rankings in first and second. Wingate follows suit in third.

Lincoln Memorial sits in fifth, while Queens is behind C-N in ninth. The Peachbelt is represented by two schools, North Georgia in fourth and Lander in eighth.  Conference Carolinas has two teams represented in King in fifth and Francis Marion in 10th.

Selections for the regional tournaments are announced on Monday, May 9, with the tournaments played from May 13-15. Each region has two, four-team sub-regional tournaments that are double-elimination and hosted on campus sites by the top two seeds in the region.
