Emily Harris (Cumming, Ga.) had a four-hit day in the night cap
GAME ONE: Carson-Newman 9, West Virginia State 0 (five innings)
Carson-Newman used aggressive base running to grab the lead in the second. The Eagles loaded the bases with a single for Mary Vandergriff (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), a hit batter to Ruthie Allen (Cumming, Ga.) and a base on balls to Natalie Corbin (Tybee Island, Ga.). A wild pitch let Vandergriff race home to give C-N a 1-0 lead after two.
The Eagles played add on in the bottom of the third. C-N started the inning with an infield single to Emily Harris (Cumming, Ga.). A walk to Hayden Dye (Powell, Tenn.) gave the Eagles two base runners for Macey Hughes (Corryton, Tenn.). She slapped a double off the paint on the left field line to score two and start the onslaught.
Carson-Newman scored eight times off seven hits in the inning. Carmen Holt (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) and SieAnna Cameron (Alcoa, Tenn.) both tallied RBI doubles in the inning, while Sohm and Harris had infield singles to score runs.

Carson-Newman padded its edge in the third. Back-to-back singles for Sohm and Harris to start the frame. A Dye sacrifice bunt moved the pair into scoring position before a Hughes RBI groundout to third scored Sohm and gave C-N a 2-0 cushion.
