Matyasovsky picks up TSWA State Player of the Week honors

NASHVILLE – Carson-Newman softball third baseman Brooke Matyasovsky (Orange, Conn.) has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers' Association State Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday evening.

She adds that honor to the SAC Player of the Week plaudit she snagged Tuesday.

Matyasovsky hit .526 for the week with 10 hits in 19 at-bats and 13 runs batted in.  The most impressive element of Matyasovsky's week has been the long ball.  She has socked six home runs in her last 16 trips to the plate.

She homered twice against Coker, Southern Wesleyan and Wheeling in the second game of all three doubleheaders.

The senior tallied multi-RBI efforts in all three of those contests, driving in a season-high six runs in the nightcap against Wheeling on Sunday.

Her slugging percentage for the week sits at 1.526 and the six home runs have moved her into second in the SAC for the category with eight on the year, just behind teammate Macauley Bailey (Cross Plains, Tenn.).  A seventh home run earlier Wednesday against Limestone brought her level with Bailey for the league lead.

This is Matyasovsky's first TSWA Player of the Week honor.  She joins Hayden Dye (Powell, Tenn.) as players recognized this season by the organization.
