JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Mars Hill College won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to pick up a rain-shortened South Atlantic Conference road win over Carson-Newman on Friday afternoon in Jefferson City, 5-3.
With the win, Mars Hill improves to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in SAC play. C-N falls to 7-2 overall and 2-7 in league play.
MHC's Erika Pinate topped C-N's Kylie Elliott at No. 1 singles and Tatiana Dualiby rallied from a first-set loss to beat Taryn Cappadona to lift the Lions to the win. Anna Rickenbaker also won for MHC at No. 4 singles, dropping C-N's Katie Brown, 6-3, 7-5.
The Lions grabbed an early lead with a 2-1 advantage in singles. Pinate and Rickenbaker won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles over Elliott and Cappadona, while Ona Jane and Mary Nelson collaborated for a 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Eagles took the No. 2 doubles match, 8-3, as Stefy Stand and Devon Jennings beat Mars Hill's Tatiana Dualiby and Jaqueline Rouquet.
C-N also picked up wins at No. 3 singles behind Stand's 6-3, 6-3 win over Jane, and at No. 5 singles where Stephanie Goode earned a point from Rouquet who retired after a tight first-set win.
C-N wraps up its regular season on Saturday against Georgetown (Ky.) at noon.
