JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Another day, another pivotal SAC win to start conference play in 2022 for Carson-Newman women's tennis. After sweeping the Coker Cobras on Friday, the Eagles returned to their home courts at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex to play the Limestone Saints (4-3, 0-1 SAC) Saturday.

The final read 6-1 in favor of the home team to secure the second straight SAC win over Limestone for C-N. Carson-Newman is no stranger to starting SAC play against the Saints as they have seen Limestone to start SAC play in consecutive seasons, as last February was a 5-2 Eagles win from Gaffney.

Ana Carla Resende was the keypoint for the Eagles as she was victorious in both doubles and singles. In doubles, she and Abby Reis won 6-2. Then, in singles, Resende would win 6-4, 7-6 in no. 1 singles.

"Girls were in charge the entire match. Ana Carla won a very tough match even though she did not play her best," head coach Jim Frederick said.

The 2022 version between the Saints and Eagles saw two out of three doubles matches go in way of Carson-Newman as it would be a 1-0 early advantage for C-N which they never lost.

In number one singles, Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) played a clean 6-0 sweep to earn the first win for C-N. From there, Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and Summer Reeves (Maidstone, Kent, England) secured doubles for the Eagles as they won 6-4 in number two.

The lone match to go in favor of Limestone was number three as the Eagles duo of Violetta Khisamova (Yaroslavl, Russia) and Julia Speiser were handed a 7-5 defeat.

As singles play started, the Eagles had no trouble continuing their momentum and winning all but one singles match.

The singles portion saw Ana Carla Resende secure her second straight SAC win as she was victorious 6-3, 6-0 from number one singles. Then, Violetta Khisamova kept the winning alive as she would win 7-5, 6-1 at number three singles.

From number four singles, C-N saw Hannah Price continue her winning ways with a 6-1, 6-4 victory to officially move the score 4-0 for C-N. Therefore, her doubles partner Natasha Forrest played to a 6-2, 6-3 result from number five singles.

Finally, in number six singles, Anita Chornei continued her hot start to SAC play with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

The lone loss for C-N singles came in number two singles as Summer Reeves was handed a 6-4, 6-2 loss.

Carson-Newman takes to the road next week for a trio pair of matches as SAC play continues against the Newberry Wolves on Tuesday before the Eagles face one of the top NAIA programs in Tennessee Wesleyan next Friday. Then, next Saturday sees the Eagles travel to face DI program Western Carolina from Cullowhee, North Carolina.
