Eagles slide up one spot in latest ITA rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – Make it three straight weeks for the Eagles to be an ITA top 30 program. For the second consecutive week, it is Carson-Newman women's tennis sitting within the ITA top 20, coming in at no. 16 for the April 21 poll.

C-N (16-4, 10-2 SAC) wrapped up their 2022 regular season with a Senior Day sweep of the Catawba College Catawba Indians last Saturday, only days after picking up a win over Anderson 4-3.

As she has been all season, senior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) remains one of the best women's singles players in all DII, coming in at number 37 for the latest release. In her 2022 campaign, Resende sits at 15-4 this spring, including 9-2 in conference play, leading her to a spot as an All-SAC first team singles member. In her last 10 matches, the Brazil native has seen a near perfect record as she has gone 8-2 as well.

Newberry's Zulay Castaneda remains the highest ranked SAC women's singles player, sitting at number 15. The other SAC women's singles players ranked this week are Wingate's Camilla Ciaccia (#28), Resende, Queen's Jill Morse (#39), Resende, Anderson's Anna Greer (#59), Anderson's Catherine Blouin (#60), Limestone's Anamaria Kiszner (#66), and Newberry's Nastassia Chamoun (#70).

In the latest team rankings, it is the Queens (N.C.) Royals once again leading the way for all SAC women's programs as they sit at no. 9, ahead of Wingate at no. 14. Following the Royals and Bulldogs is the Orange and Blue at no. 16 and Newberry coming in at number 17. The other SAC programs ranked in the April 21 poll are Tusculum (#41), Lenoir-Rhyne (#46), Anderson (#51), and Lincoln Memorial (#53).

The Eagles will be in action this afternoon for the 2022 SAC Tennis Championships as they face off with the Anderson Trojans. First serve is tentatively scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
