Eagles swing back into ITA top 50

ITA March 31 Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – For the first time in three weeks, Carson-Newman women's tennis regains a spot in the latest ITA national top 50. After claiming two straight upset victories over LMU and Lenoir-Rhyne, the Eagles have come in at no. 20 for the latest ITA rankings. As she has done so all season, Carson-Newman women's tennis senior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) continues to maintain a spot as one of the top-50 women's singles players in DII, coming in at no. 26 for the week of March 31.

Resende has maintained her spot as one of the top-75 DII women's players as she started off the spring ranked no. 8 in the nation before seeing a spot as the no. 15 player and no. 25 player last week. Her latest ranking saw the senior come in at no. 27 as she will look to build upon her spot with another massive win over Wingate on Saturday.

So far in the spring 2022 season, Resende has amassed an overall record of 11-2 while holding a mark of 5-0 in SAC play. The senior last suffered a spring season loss during CNWT's matchup with Lee on Feb. 26. Since then, she has rattled off six straight wins, including her five SAC wins thus far.

Meanwhile, the Orange and Blue is on quite a roll as they currently ride a 10-match win streak including a perfect 6-0 in SAC play. The Eagles have not lost since dropping a heartbreaking defeat to DIII Sewanee in mid-February. Since then, C-N has claimed six straight conference wins and a pair of valuable non-conference victories along the way.

Resende joins Newberry's Zulay Castaneda (#16), Wingate's Camilla Ciaccia (#32), Queen (N.C.)'s Jill Morse (#39), Anderson's Anna Greer (#44), Limestone's Anamaria Kiszner (#64), and Wingate's Elena Gunfaus (#65) as the other South Atlantic Conference women's singles players to be ranked in the top 75 for the March 31 poll.

As a team, Carson-Newman is one of six SAC women's programs ranked in the latest ITA poll. Queens (N.C.) comes in with the highest placement as they are a top-10 program (#10). The other SAC women's programs in the latest top 50 are Newberry (#17), Lenoir-Rhyne (#19), Wingate (#24), and Lincoln Memorial (#37).

Resende and the rest of the Carson-Newman women's tennis program will take to the courts for a pivotal SAC matchup this Saturday. The Eagles play host to no. 24 Wingate for a top-25 meeting as the Eagles look for their first win in series history (0-13).

No. 20 C-N and no. 24 Wingate get started from the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex at 10 a.m. Saturday.
