Carson-Newman Game Notes - LMU Road

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (14-12, 11-9 South Atlantic Conference) women's basketball team will travel to face the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters (14-12, 13-7 South Atlantic Conference) in Harrogate, Tenn., at Tex Turner Arena on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.

The Lady Eagles have lost seven of their last 10 games, and Carson-Newman is only two games back of third place LMU in the conference standings heading into Wednesday's game.

"Getting down to crunch time for our time with two games to go," said Carson-Newman head women's basketball coach Mike Mincey. "We still have a chance to host that quarterfinal tournament game but we are in must win territory now after a bad home loss Saturday. LMU on the other hand had a nice win on the road at Wingate and are in the driver's seat to hold down one of the top four spots. Like a lot of our games this year our last game with LMU could've gone either way but they made a couple more plays at the end. Should be a nice rematch with a lot on the line for both teams."

Carson-Newman lost 69-64 in its last game to Queens this past Saturday at Holt Fieldhouse. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Lady Eagles, and the win for Queens was its first after dropping 11 games in a row following a win over C-N on Jan. 11, as Carson-Newman was swept by Queens this year.

Carson-Newman was led in scoring by junior Lashawnda Peacher (Springfield, Tenn.) as she scored a career-high 21 points, and nearly had a double-double as she led C-N with nine rebounds. Peacher has now scored in double-figures the last three games, where she is averaging 16 points per contest in those games.

Earlier this season on Feb. 5, Lincoln Memorial handed Carson-Newman a 73-68 loss at Holt Fieldhouse. Carson-Newman never led in the contest, yet after trailing by 11 points at halftime, the Lady Eagles outscored LMU 36-30 in the second half only to see the Lady Railsplitters hold on in the final minute to hand C-N its then fourth-straight loss.

Carson-Newman's comeback bid in the second half was led by sophomore Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) who scored 15 points with 10 coming in the final 20 minutes as she hit a trio of 3-pointers in the game. Burstrom was joined in double-figures by junior Jassmine Franklin (Lexington, Ky.) who scored 11 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

The Lady Railsplitters, coached by Roger Hodge, are in third place in the SAC standings with a 13-7 mark in conference play. LMU has won four of its last six games, and the Lady Railsplitters are led in scoring by Aisjah Roan, who is averaging 15.5 points per contest. The Lady Eagles lead the series 46-38, and C-N has won seven of the last nine meetings, although LMU has a two-game winning streak in the series.

Wednesday's game will be carried on the Eagle Sports Network's flagship station WPFT-FM 106.3 FM, with coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m. with "The Countdown to Tipoff," and live audio is also available on www.cneagles.com.
