C-N suffers loss at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Carson-Newman (0-2) women's soccer team fell 6-0 at Saint Leo (2-0) in this morning.

"We're gutted with the score," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "The score doesn't suggest the way we played."

The Lions' Alejandra Muro opened the scoring ten minutes into the match. Arielle Kabangu claimed Muro's assist and then provided three points of her own.

"It's heartbreaking as a coach," Coach Moodie said, "to watch your team get defeated in such a way."

Katie Waddell supplied the remaining two goals and also had an assist. The Lions put in their final goal in the 89th minute.

"We missed two one-on-ones with the goalie," Coach Moodie said. "Every chance they had went in the back of the net. Unfortunately that's the difference in the game sometimes."

C-N senior Maleya Garrison (Hendersonville, Tenn.) led the Eagles in shots with three taken and one on target. Sophomores Chelsea Jordan (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Elissa Lane (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior captain Sidnee Edwards (Knoxville, Tenn.) each released one shot and landed it on frame.

"This was an opportunity for us to figure out where we are as a team," Coach Moodie said. "We're going to reform, come in Monday with a good attitude and get back at it for our game on Wednesday."

The Lady Eagles return to McCown Field to open their home season against Young Harris Wednesday at 5 p.m.
