C-N faces LMU for 20th time in program history

JEFFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lady Eagles (2-7, 0-4 SAC) play host to Lincoln Memorial (6-2, 4-1 SAC) for their 11th time tomorrow at 5 p.m.

"We want to encourage our fans," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said, "to come out and support us. They have been great all season."

C-N is coming off its fourth conference loss with a 3-0 final at Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday.

LMU defeated L-R 1-0 on Sept. 27 with a free kick goal by Kadie Soall.

Last Saturday, the Railsplitters roped in their fourth SAC win against Brevard. Nicole McKinney opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Michelle Hunter put up her sixth goal of the season in the 63rd for a 2-0 contest.

On Sept. 27, the Eagles were defeated by Brevard for the first time in program history. The final score was 1-0.

"We're looking forward to LMU at home," Coach Moodie said. "It's always a good game."

C-N has gone 12-6-1 over the past 19 years of competing against LMU, and is 5-4-1 on its home field. Last season, the Eagles toppled the Railsplitters 3-2.

In the fifth minute, then senior Lizeth Munguia (Wilmington, N.C.) put the Eagles on the scoreboard with a free kick goal. Over the next 71 minutes, Hunter and Maddy Nagy each put up a point to take the lead for LMU.

Three minutes after LMU's final goal, Munguia tied it up with a header goal off a corner by Mikayla Gregg (Newport, Tenn.)

Then freshman Gabrielle Gianeselli (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored the golden goal for C-N eight minutes into overtime.

"We are," Coach Moodie said, "looking forward to the match."

The contest kicks off at 5 p.m. tomorrow on McCown Field. Watch or follow live at www.cneagles.com/live.
