C-N opens home season against Mountain Lions

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (0-2) women's soccer team hosts Young Harris (1-1) in its first home match tomorrow at 5 p.m.

"We are a young team," Carson-Newman graduate assistant coach Sarah Tompkins said, "with lots of potential."

The Eagles head back from their opening weekend in Florida with a 0-2 record. Senior Maleya Garris (Hendersonville, Tenn.) leads her team in shots having taken three, all of which were on target.

"After this weekend," Coach Tompkins said, "I know our girls are hungry to get goals and make a statement."

The Mountain Lions lost 2-0 in their home opener to Christian Brothers despite landing seven shots out of 10 on goal.

On Sept. 6, C-N's fellow South Atlantic Conference member Coker hosted Young Harris. YHC went home with a 3-0 victory with a goal and an assist from both Carly Rich and Kaylee Bromwell and the final goal provided by Julia DaSilva.

C-N tied Coker 0-0 last year after two overtimes. In that match, the Eagles landed 10 of 12 shots on frame.

"We now have players," Coach Tompkins said, "coming into the mix after being out with injuries. We are excited to see what they bring to the game."

Carson-Newman fell 2-0 to the Mountain Lions last fall season with YHC's Whitney Thomas, since graduated, supplying both points.

In 2009, the Eagles toppled YHC 4-0.
