Eagles remain undefeated at home

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (2-3) women's soccer team gave King (4-1) its first loss of the season with a 3-0 victory tonight on McCown Field.

 

"We needed these goals today," C-N freshman winger Camilla Olsson said, "to continue to boost our confidence as a team."

 

The match remained scoreless through the first half. Five minutes into the second, freshman Casidy Simonis (Pinkerington, Oh.) received a drop pass from senior captain Sidnee Edwards (Knoxville, Tenn.) and ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box for her first goal of the season giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

 

Five minutes later, senior Maleya Garrison collected a deflection off the King's defense, took two touches forward with her right foot before sending the ball soaring into the back of the net.

 

Garrison now leads the Eagles with two goals on the year including the winning goal in C-N's home-opening 1-0 victory over Young Harris. She also runs first in points with four, shots taken with 10 and shots on goal with eight.

 

Freshman Camilla Olsson (Trondheim, Norway) put up an unassisted goal with nine minutes remaining in the match for a 3-0 final in favor of the Eagles.

 

"We worked hard defensively," Olsson said, "and we kept possession."

 

C-N outshot King 15 to 14 and eight to four in shots-on-goal. Sophomore keeper Katy Hill (Farragut, Tenn.) tallied four saves and her first win of the year.

 

The Eagles' did not give up a corner kick and received five.

 

"We're getting better every game," Olsson said. "We just need to continue to work hard and possess the ball."
