Eagles climb the national rankings, land at No. 9 in United Soccer Coaches poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Carson-Newman women's soccer program has moved up to No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II week three national poll as announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles started out at No. 25 in the preseason poll, but worked their way up to No.  9 after making pit stops at the 12 and 11 spots in the rankings.

"We speak about these things with our team," mentioned Coach Simon Duffy. "Nobody is going to remember after week three who is top-25 or top-10. It's fantastic for the recognition, but the collective agreement is at the end of the year we want to hold up trophies."

C-N posted wins over Mars Hill and Newberry to begin the season 5-0 for the first time since 2009. It is the third time in program history that the team has started 5-0.

The Eagles appeared in the top-10 on September 6th of last season, before losing to Alabama-Huntsville on the same day. Three weeks later, Lenoir-Rhyne knocked off the Eagles to stall a five-game win streak. The Bears visit McCown Field on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
