Eagles wrap up day one of Enchanted Valley Showdown

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – After one day of action from Young Harris in the Enchanted Valley Showdown, Carson-Newman women's tennis is looking strong on both doubles and singles side of action. After one day of action completed, the Eagles finished 6-2 overall in both singles and doubles.

Much like their male counterparts, the women's doubles pairing for CNWT would first see action against Montevallo early Saturday morning. This, however, would be the only doubles action for the Eagles before turning around and playing in singles action against the Lee Flames.

The first doubles team for CNWT to gain a victory would be graduate student Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and junior Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) as the duo would start their time in the Peach State with a 6-2 victory over their opponents.

Following in their footsteps, senior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and sophomore Summer Reeves (Maidstone, Kent, England) would take to the courts together for the first time this season. As the two went up against Dirr and Ozzor of Montevallo, it would be C-N taking the 6-3 result and started doubles 2-0 on the day.

However, the high was short-lived as freshman Maria Ulloa (Cuba) and sophomore Julia Speiser would not be able to win their doubles match as Montevallo's Breedlove and Barfoot took the 6-4 victory.

The Eagles then moved onto singles action against the Lee Flames. In number one singles, it would be Ana Carla Resende taking on Kinn for the Flames. Resende continued her hot streak from her time at the ITAs a couple weekends ago as she won on Saturday 6-1, 7-5 to keep her season record with only one singles loss thus far.

Number three singles action saw Natasha Forrest claim a 7-5, 6-4 victory over her Flames opponent in Ragastovac. Julia Speiser kept the winning ways going as she claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory from number four singles against Donaldson of Lee.

In one of the more competitive matches from start to finish, junior Anita Chornei (Kyviv, Ukraine) was in action from number five singles. After claiming the 6-1 win in set one, Chornei and her Flames opponent, Trammell, battled back-and-forth in set two before the Eagles junior would take the 7-6 (3) tiebreaking result and claim overall victory.

Summer Reeves would be at number two singles for the Eagles as she would fall to Maiz from Lee, 7-5, 6-1.

The Eagles will be back in action as they wrap up time in Young Harris with the second day of action in the Enchanted Valley Showdown on Sunday from the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex on the campus of Young Harris College.
