JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the first time in 2022, no. 20 Carson-Newman women's tennis (12-3, 6-1 SAC) were defeated at home as well as suffered their first SAC loss of the season. The Eagles were looking to claim their first win over the no. 24 Wingate Bulldogs (9-6, 6-1 SAC). However, it was the visiting Bulldogs claiming their 14th straight match result over C-N as they left Mossy Creek 5-2 victors on Saturday.

Saturday saw the Eagles get off on the right foot as they would get the early 1-0 advantage after taking two out of three doubles matches.

The first match to conclude was from number three doubles. In action would be C-N's Violetta Khisamova (Yaroslavl, Russia) and Julia Spesier against Wingate's Saga Berggren/Elena Gunfaus. C-N would be the first team on the board as they claimed a 6-2 final.

In number one action, Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and junior Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom), clinched doubles for C-N as they pulled off the upset over #18 ranked pairing of Camilla Ciaccia/S. Sambyakugari by a final of 6-3.

Finally, in number two doubles, senior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and sophomore Summer Reeves would falter as they fell 7-6 to Wingate's Alex Lopez/Chloe Kosmrlj.

Then, in singles action, Violetta Khisamova was the lone Eagles to gain a victory as she played at the number three position. As she faced another nationally ranked foe, #65 Elena Gunfaus of the Bulldogs, the Russia native met the two-set minimum as she would win 7-5, 6-3.

Beyond the Eagles gaining a win by Khisamova, only one other match would see more than the two-set minimum. Hannah Price, active at the number four position, would face Wingate's Alex Lopez as she fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Saturday also saw a meeting of nationally-ranked foes at number one singles. C-N's no. 26 Ana Carla Resende would go head-to-head against no. 32 Camilla Ciaccia of Wingate as the visitor looked completely dominant as she would win 7-5, 6-3.

Summer Reeves would fall at number two singles by a final of 6-3, 7-5. Natasha Forrest would see a loss for herself at number five singles as she was handed a 7-6, 6-2 defeat. Finally, in the final match of the day, Wingate got a 7-6 win by S. Sambyakugari over Anita Chornei.

The Eagles return to action next week as they travel to Newberry for a meeting with the red-hot Wolves Tuesday. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m. between C-N and Newberry.
