Women’s tennis featured in final ITA team, singles, doubles rankings

ORLANDO – Carson-Newman's women's tennis program has closed the year featured in all three national rankings the Intercollegiate Tennis Association sponsors.

The Eagles wrapped up the year ranked 22nd in the team rankings, while Ana Carla Resende snagged a top 25 ranking in singles play, while Resende and doubles partner Summer Reeves were the 42nd-ranked doubles pairing nationally.

The Orange and Blue have spent the better part of two years featured in the top 50 of the ITA rankings.  C-N rose as high as 15th in this year's national rankings.

Along the way, Carson-Newman picked up wins over No. 12 Tennessee Wesleyan, No. 26 Lincoln Memorial, No. 13 Lenoir-Rhyne, No. 12 Queens and No. 52 Anderson en route to finishing the season 17-5 and 10-2 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Resende has been ranked every week for the last two years.  She closes out her true senior season 28-7. Resende's 28 wins this season are the most by an Eagle in the last 20 years.

The Brazilian rose as high as eight in the national rankings after making a run to the semifinals in the fall at the ITA Cup.

She collected a 6-4, 6-1 win over Anna Novikova of UIndy before bowing out to top-ranked Deniz Khazan of eventual national champion Barry.

Resende and Reeves are Carson-Newman's first nationally-ranked doubles pairing of the last decade.  The duo went 17-4 this year with a 15-4 mark in duals.  They were 10-1 in SAC play.
