Eagles drop, remain in ITA top 30

ITA April 7 rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – After a strong showing in a pair of matches last week, Carson-Newman women's tennis remains as one of the ITA's top 30 DII women's programs ahead of the final weeks for SAC play. After splitting with Mars Hill and Wingate, the Orange and Blue come in at number 27 for the latest ITA rankings poll.

Meanwhile, individually, it is senior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) staking claim to a spot in the ITA top 75, more specifically top 40, once more. After a strong 2-0 week, Resende moves from no. 26 to no. 36, holding a 19-6 mark in DII play for 2022.

So far in the spring 2022 season, Resende has amassed an overall record of 12-3 while holding a mark of 6-1 in SAC play. Her lone conference loss came as part of C-N's 5-2 defeat to the Bulldogs of Wingate as Camilla Ciaccia would take the meeting last Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Orange and Blue have seen a few stumbles as of late after seeing their double-digit match win streak snapped at the hands of Wingate last Saturday. However, the Eagles remain as one of the top four women's teams in the 2022 SAC standings with only one conference blemish on their tally.

Resende joins Newberry's Zulay Castaneda (#16), Wingate's Camilla Ciaccia (#20), Queen (N.C.)'s Jill Morse (#38), Limestone's Anamaria Kiszner (#52), Anderson's Anna Greer (#55), and Wingate's Elena Gunfaus (#73) as the other South Atlantic Conference women's singles players to be ranked in the top 75 for the April 7 poll.

As a team, Carson-Newman is one of six SAC women's programs ranked in the latest ITA poll. Wingate comes in as the highest ranked program in the latest rankings with a spot at #11. Following the Bulldogs are the Queens (N.C.) Royals at #12, Newberry Wolves (#19), Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (#29), Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (#39), Anderson Trojans (#52), and Tusculum Pioneers (#58).

The Orange and Blue ramp up SAC play as they hit the road for a pair of pivotal matchups on Friday and Saturday. First, it will be the #19 Newberry Wolves playing host to the #27 Eagles on Friday for a 1:00 p.m. first serve at the Oakland Tennis Center. Then, Saturday pits #12 Queens (N.C.) versus C-N for a 3:00 p.m. first serve.
