Comeback of the Year

Football at Mars Hill:  It all began with a play the team has already dubbed, "The On-Sybert." Trailing by 13 with two minutes to go and by six with 1:35 left in the game, No. 23/18 Carson-Newman University recovered an onside kick and in spite of trailing for every single second of regulation against Mars Hill, the EKG Eagles pushed the ball into the end zone with all zeroes on the clock on a fourth-down, one-yard run from Jayden Sullins to escape Meares Stadium with a 28-27 victory Saturday over the Lions. The 13-point fourth-quarter comeback was the largest fourth quarter comeback in C-N history. The overall 17-point rally is the fourth-largest overall comeback in school history.

Football at Catawba: For three consecutive drives, Catawba University had stopped the Carson-Newman offense, holding the No. 25-ranked Eagles to just 14 offensive plays for 28 yards. But with 3:17 left in the game and down by three, C-N found the grit to punch their way down the field and keep its record perfect. Jayden Sullins bullied his way into the paint over the left side of the line with 25 seconds left on the clock to secure a 35-34 victory over the Indians at Shuford Stadium Saturday night. The Eagles got the victory behind their third different starting quarterback of the season, Zane Whitson, who orchestrated the 13-play touchdown drive with his legs, his reads and a quick pass to Jeremiah Carroll to keep the chains moving. It was the first time C-N scored a goahead touchdown with under 30 seconds to go since a Nov. 9, 2019 victory over Limestone.

Women's Swim v. Wingate: Carson-Newman women's swim team (#17) upset the Wingate Bulldogs (#7) on Dec. 14th, 2024. In a score of 261-251, the Eagles came from behind to secure the win over the Bulldogs after winning first place in the final event of the meet. Entering the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Eagles were trailing by three points. The four swimmer team led by Olivi Muir, Emma Bowling, Megan Corcoran, and Martina Ivanonva, finished first place in the event to complete the Eagles comeback by a margin of 10 points.
